On the 13th of April, Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar held a coach excursion with 24 International friends, firstly to Salobreña.
It was a warm, sunny day and on arrival there was time for a coffee, before walking through the town to view the 10th century Moorish castle at the top of the hill. Some people chose to join the local bus, which was quite exciting, winding its way upwards through the narrow streets and tight bends. There were still the steeps steps before entering the castle, which is still being very tastefully renovated and they are uncovering further ancient remains. The views on such a clear day, of the surrounding countryside, down to the sea and up to the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada, were spectacular. After the visit many wandered through the town stopping on the way to have refreshments in the many plazas and there was time for lunch.
After lunch the friends re-joined the coach for a drive through the picturesque countryside with its many valleys, to visit the Kitty Harri´s Sculpture gardens, set in two acres, which straddle a mountain ridge that projects into the Valle Tropical with a view of the village of Otivar in the distance. On arrival they were welcomed by Kitty and treated to a drink and cakes, seated round the swimming pool whist she gave an introductory talk on how the garden has evolved with the various trees, shrubs and over 150 sculptures. After the talk there was time to wander along the many terraces with seating areas where you could relax, drink in the ambience and discover the various different styles of sculptures, both large and small, all the time being able to appreciate the magnificent views, north to the Almajara and Cazulas mountain ranges, and south to the Mediterranean Sea. It was then time to join the coach for the homeward journey after a most enjoyable day.
