Trip to Quarat Dillar & Lanjaron

On the 22nd of February, 33 international friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar, spent a wonderful morning at the Quaryat Dillar Olive Oil factory.

On a glorious, cold, but sunny morning they travelled by coach to the factory on the edge of the Sierra Nevada where, on arrival, they were very warmly welcomed by Antonio, one of the owners, and introduced to the fantastic guide, Jose, who was extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The group walked a very short distance to the olive grove where they all learned about the different varieties of olives and about the growing and care of the Olive trees. They were then taken to see all the machinery involved in the making of Olive Oil, learning about all the various stages of production and they also saw the huge storage vats. After the tour of all the facilities the group got in the coach and the driver then followed Jose to a nearby, beautiful little hotel in the village of Dilar, with fabulous views to the snow capped Sierra Nevadas, where they were taught how to taste the different types of Olive Oil.  5 different varieties of prize winning Olive oil were sampled accompanied by fresh bread from the local bakery. The tables were beautifully set up with napkins personalised for the tour. Afterwards there was the opportunity to order bottles of personal choice and the orders were swiftly delivered, straight from the factory. The whole tour was so professional and highly recommended. Many commented that they had never tasted such wonderful Virgen Extra Olive Oil!
After the tour the group travelled to Lanjaron, where there was time to have lunch, to view the ruins of the castle and to see the many water fountains which are situated throughout the town.
Everyone enjoyed the day and returned to the Costa, many with their purchases of bottles of superb Olive oil. Lux Mundi would like to thank all who supported this excursion, which enables them to continue with their charitable work and we hope to see you all at future events in the Centre and excursions.
