Trip to Olvera

On the 23rd of March 57 friends joined Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar, for a coach trip to Olvera and Setenil de las Bodegas in the province of Cadiz.

They travelled via Antequera, passing through beautiful countryside, and arrived mid morning in the white village of Olvera which is dominated by its remarkable Arabic castle. There was plenty of time to walk up to the castle and to climb up to the top to enjoy the superb views of the surrounding hills and countryside, full of olive groves, and to see below the imposing parish church, Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Many also visited the small, but very interesting, museum to learn about the history of this protected area.
The group then travelled the short distance to the unique, white village of Setenil de las Bodegas, famous for its dwellings built into overhanging rocks above the Rio Trejo.  Here there was time to wander through Calle del Sol and Calle del Sombre, streets situated under the cliffs, to have lunch in one of the ‘cave’ restaurants and some even found the energy to climb more steps up to the Nazari castle.
The coach took a different route home via Ardales, with a view of the lakes, and all agreed that it had been a great day out to see two very diverse villages. Lux Mundi would like to thank all who came along as your support helps the centre to continue with its charitable work and look forward to meeting you again at their future events and excursions.
