Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Lux Mundi

What does “Lux Mundi” mean?

It comes from Latin and means “Light of the World.”

Why is the logo a lighthouse?

Our Founder was inspired by the Calaburras Lighthouse in Mijas Costa, which shines over the whole Bay of Málaga. He chose the name Lux Mundi so that, from our Centres, the light of Christ could shine through our presence and work.

Who is Lux Mundi for?

For everyone — whether believers or not, practising or not, of any origin or faith tradition. Here there is a space for you, with no labels and no demands.

Location and Contact

Charity Shops and Donations

What kind of products can I find in the shops?

Clothing, footwear, handbags, jewellery, books, homeware, and other items in good condition — all carefully selected and sold at affordable prices.

Are the products new or second-hand?

They are second-hand items donated by generous people, carefully selected and displayed. Occasionally, we also receive brand-new items with tags, which are sold at greatly reduced prices.

What items can I donate?

Clothing, shoes, books, homeware, jewellery, and other items in good condition. We do not accept large furniture or heavily worn items. When bringing your donation, please consider whether you would wear the garment yourself or happily give it to someone you know.

Donations

Where and when can I bring donations?

You can bring them to any Lux Mundi Centre during opening hours. For large deliveries, please contact us in advance.

Can I make a financial donation?

Yes. Your contribution helps us keep the centre running and support our charitable campaigns. Please visit our Donations page to see the different ways you can help.

What are the shop’s proceeds used for?

To support the running of the centre and to help people in need. We also donate items directly to those who require them.

Can I pay by card in the shop?

Yes, we do offer this facility.

Volunteering and Care Network

Can I volunteer at Lux Mundi or join activities even if I’m not part of a church?

Yes. All that’s required is a willingness to help when needed and some availability. Everyone is welcome — regardless of their faith or level of religious practice.

Ecumenical Identity

What does it mean that Lux Mundi is an ecumenical centre?

It means we promote unity among Christians from different denominations, encouraging mutual respect, shared prayer, and joint acts of service.

Who can take part?

Anyone — all are welcome to join.

Where are the ecumenical prayers held?

In parishes and churches of various Christian traditions across the province of Málaga. See our updated calendar for details.

Can I arrange an ecumenical visit for my group?

Yes. Please contact us to coordinate a visit to different Christian places of worship and share a moment of dialogue and prayer.

Do I need to sign up for activities?

Some activities, like Coffee Morning, are open to everyone without registration. However, fundraising events require advance booking to secure your place.

Creative and Language Activities

What is the “Creative Wednesdays” group?

An open group where people meet each week to paint, knit, or create. There is no teacher — just the desire to share art and friendship.

Do I need experience or materials for the creative groups?

No, you don’t need any experience, but you do need to bring your own materials if you plan to participate actively.
