On the 15 August 53 international friends of Lux Mundi set off in the early evening for the short journey by bus to Almuñecar for the annual firework display to celebrate the culmination of the festival of the Virgen de la Antigua.
On arrival there was plenty of time to watch the procession of the idol from the church to the boat, or to enjoy a leisurely meal in one of the many restaurants, or to stroll around the fairground and to walk along the seafront. At 23:15 when the boat, carrying the virgen, arrived back after the short voyage around the headland, the firework display started and it was truly spectacular, better than previous years. The finale took your breath away! The sky was full of gold dust, with fireworks coming from all directions, and the sound was earth trembling. What a fabulous experience! On returning to the bus everyone remarked on what a fantastic evening it had been.
